What We Believe:

While the word “apostle” can mean different things in different churches, the word used in the Bible is apostolos- Derived from the Greek verb apostello meaning "to send away or "to send forth."

  1. An apostle is a "sent one" with the authority of the sender.

  2. The disciples become the Apostles when they are sent out with the authority of Jesus.

  3. A true apostle is someone who is sent by God, with the authority of God, for a mission of God.

  4. Signs and wonders are signs of a true apostle.

  5. A true apostle will suffer like Christ.

  6. A true apostle is marked by burden for the church.

Matthew 10:2-4

Facts about the apostles in Matthew (in six groups of two)

Simon (Peter) and Andrew

James and John

Philip and Bartholomew (Nathaniel)

Thomas and Matthew (Levi)

James and Thaddeus (Lebbaeus)(Judas)

Simon and Judas Iscariot

Judas represents the people of God betraying the Son of God.

Every list of the disciples starts with Peter. Peter denied Jesus but was restored.

Matthew 27… Judas knows he has sinned…goes to the temple…but gave in to

despair…

Vs.

Peter also denied Jesus, but he did not give up…AND stayed with the Apostles….

Jesus forgave and restored Peter…

Sent him…

John 21:15-17
