February | CEC Update

Welcome to the first Missions Update for the C.E.C. [Community Enrichment Center]!

Each update, we will give you information on how to KNOW | PRAY | GIVE | GO for N2N for the month.

Here’s what you need to KNOW | PRAY | GIVE | GO:

KNOW

  • CEC provides a food pantry Monday thru Friday. Distribution includes a grocery cart per family that includes 80 lbs of food - enough to feed 2 meals a day for a family of 3 for 2 weeks. They get most of the food from Tarrant Area Food Bank daily and depend on volunteers to prepare the grocery carts and distribution to recipients.

  • CEC also provides education for GED continuing education degrees. Provide training for licensing for HVAC, plumbing, welding, truck driving. On Wednesday evenings in Senior Network dealing with senior isolation, income tax preparation, etc.

PRAY

  • Wellspringers can PRAY for more affordable housing is needed. CEC has 35 Single Family Homes in NRH and Watauga, 140 unit apartment in NRH, 16 townhomes... 207 total locations to house people who have been evicted or can't afford the high prices of home ownership and rent.

  • Please also PRAY that an open position at CEC may be filled with a qualified person for Volunteer Coordinator. This is an integral position who contacts businesses, churches, etc for volunteers, When there are limited volunteers for the food bank, not enough food gets accumulated in the grocery carts, so instead of 80 lbs per cart, maybe only 50 lbs gets loaded. The food requirements are 80 lbs times 300 carts so 2400 lbs of food daily for distribution. Each week there are 10 - 15 % new recipients every week. There are 3 Navigators that volunteer 4 hours a day to help direct 400 recipients to needed services.

  • Please PRAY for safety of front desk people at CEC. Often the recipients are under much stress and can get gruff and mad easily when they perceive that they aren't being treated fairly.

GIVE

  • Wellspringers may GIVE by providing funds for food distribution. If CEC averages only 200 families a day @ $25 per food cart, that equals $5000 per day. And the food comes out to around 50 cents per pound of food which is much less that what food expenses at a grocery store.

If you want to give to the CEC, go to our Give page - HERE - and select “Community Enrichment Center”.

GO

  • Volunteers are needed Monday - Friday at the food bank.

  • Also there is a Second Glance thrift shop open daily. Most time slots are for 4 hours, but any help is appreciated if only for a couple of hours. Some churches sponsor a 4 hour time slot, once a month helping with the 10 volunteers needed for each 4 hour distribution period.
